The chapter was organized in early 1984 with an initial membership of 140. AAAA National officially recognized the chapter on February 7 (Figure 1). The initial slate of officers included Ray Swindell - President, Eddie Moore - Senior VP, George Coutoumanos - Secretary/Treasure & VP Programs, Leroy Worm VP Membership and Bob McKinnan - Assistant VP Membership. COL Clark Burnett, Director, Combat Developments Fort Rucker was the guest speaker at the first general membership meeting held on 28 February 1984.
In 1987, the chapter hosted the National Convention and was selected as the outstand chapter. Brigadier General Jim Hesson presents the outstanding chapter certificate to Leroy Worm, Tom Russell and Sarah Ervin .
By 1987, the chapter membership had grown to 344 and the chapter created its first matching scholarship. By 1989 the chapter had grown to 500+ members. Over the years a very impressive collection of guest speakers traveled to Fort Worth. They included, MG Ellis D. Parker, then BG Bud Forster, MG Dick Stephenson, Army Astronaut Sam Gemar, Army Astronaut Bob Stewart, Mr. George Singley, The Honorable James Ambrose, LTG Crosbie Saint, Mr. Sergi Sikorsky, Mr. H. Ross Perot Jr., MG Duz Packett and many others. The chapter membership has stabilized at ~350 consisting of contractor, retired military and active military personnel. |
