Welcome to the North Texas Chapter of AAAA

Happy New Year from the AAAA North Texas Chapter!

It was a great 2014 for our Chapter. We thoroughly enjoyed Sergei Sikorsky recount the trials and tribulations of early helicopter development in our first quarter event. Our thanks to Sikorsky for the coordination and the huge sponsorship during that event. We listened intently to Dr. Bill Lewis, Director of Aviation Development, Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center, Redstone Arsenal, AL as he passionately spoke about future vertical lift and the technologies being brought to bear by our Aviation Science and Technology proponents and industry partners during our second quarter event. We were well represented in the 36th Aviation Brigade's Change of Command and Dining Out where members of the 2–149th participated and the AAAA NTC Executive Board sponsored this celebration after a long deployment overseas. Our scholarship golf tournament in the third quarter raised approximately $1000 in support of the 10 scholarships that we support through the AAAA National Scholarship Foundation. Local members' children receiving 2014 scholarships include: Blake Stroncek, Mackenzie Grumbine, Peyton Lane, Sarah Camba, and Alexandra Caballero. Last but not least was our Holiday Reception at the very posh Petroleum Club. BG (Ret) Howard Yellen, President of AAAA National, was our guest speaker and closed his remarks by commenting that the AAAA NTC Holiday Party was by far the most scenic one he has ever attended. Our Holiday reception attendance at this year-end event continues to rise and our mascot, T-Bone, continues to ride the freight elevator 40 floors above downtown Fort Worth to be present for the festivities. Let me on behalf of the executive board thank you for your support of our chapter in 2014.

Our 2015 slate of activities should interest you with MG Jim Richardson, Commanding General, Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Command and BG Bob Marion, Program Executive Officer, Army Aviation being invited to address the chapter in the first and second quarters. We will also be soliciting your vote on four AAAA NTC Executive Board positions: VP Industrial Affairs, VP Membership, VP Scholarships, and Treasurer. If you are interested in running for any of these positions, please notify our board secretary, Ms. Clare McGarrey by email (clare.e.mcgarrey@interconnect-wiring.com). Mark your calendars for the 2–149th GSAB’s Dining Out on April 11, 2015. This should be quite the celebration of a very accomplished group of aviation soldiers. We will again plan on having our scholarship golf tournament in the third quarter and holiday reception at the Petroleum Club in December 2015.

Finally, I ask that you keep our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and their families in your prayers. They sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.

Happy New 2015,

Michael J. Miller
